  23.   The DivX Pro(tm) 5.0 software is the first version of DivX(tm) video technology
  24.   designed specifically for professional users. It includes all the features
  25.   of DivX 5.0, plus extra advanced encoding technology and integrated encoding
  26.   tools that appeal specifically to the most advanced users.  DivX Pro is more
  27.   than just a codec; it is an integrated suite of video tools.

  29.   This version of DivX Pro(tm) is available to you at no cost because it is
  30.   supported by advertising delivered via the Gator Advertising and
  31.   Informational Network (GAIN). GAIN occasionally delivers online advertising
  32.   and informational messages selected based on Web sites you view. The GAIN
  33.   software must be installed in order for this version of DivX Pro to operate
  34.   properly.

  37. Installation instructions
  38. -------------------------

  40.   To install the DivX codec, you should follow the following simple steps:
  41.  
  42.   1. Copy the installer program (DivX5ProGAINBundle.exe) to a location on 
  43.      your hard drive (e.g., C:\temp).  
  44.   2. Run the installer program by double-clicking on the
  45.      DivX5ProGAINBundle.exe icon.  
  46.   3. Follow the instructions of the installer program to install the
  47.      DivX Pro software.  
  48.   4. Done! The software should be installed in your Systems directory.  
  49.   
  50.   **What files are installed?**: The DivX Pro software installer will install
  51.   the following files on your system:
  52.   
  53. * divx.dll         (DivX Pro Software) 
  54. * divxdec.ax        (DivX Decoder Filter) 
  55. * dmp4fil32.dll        (MPEG-4 Read/Write Filter)
  56. * README.txt        (This README file.)
  57. * License.txt        (License agreement for the CODEC.)
  58. * DivX Help GUide    (Internet Shortcut to DivX.com help site)
  59. * Gain_Trickler.exe     (This program launches immediately after setup is 
  60.                          completed to install the GAIN software.)

  62.   **Uninstalling DivX Pro Software**: To remove the DivX Pro software from
  63.   your system, you should use the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel in
  64.   Windows. To this by selecting "Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
  65.   Add/Remove Programs" from the Windows Start menu. In the listbox that is
  66.   presented to you, choose "DivX Pro 5.0 Bundle" and click "remove."

  68.   **Uninstalling GAIN**:  After the DivX Pro software is removed from your
  69.   system, GAIN will automatically uninstall after ten minutes.  (IMPORTANT:
  70.   Please do not install any other DivX video software in this ten minute
  71.   interval.)

  77.   **Features of DivX Pro 5.0**
  78.  
  79. * MPEG-4 Compatibility. DivX Pro is able to decode all levels of MPEG-4 Simple
  80.   Profile, MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile, and H.263 video. It is also capable
  81.   of encoding MPEG-4 Simple Profile and MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile video.
  82.   (ISO/IEC 14496-2).

  84. * DivX(tm) MPEG-4 file format. DivX Pro includes support for the new DivX(tm) MPEG-4
  85.   file format (encoding and decoding).
  86.  
  87. * Smaller file sizes. The advanced techniques and tools of DivX Pro mean that
  88.   the same visual quality can be achieved at up to 41% smaller file sizes than
  89.   DivX 4.x. This represents up to an additional 25% improvement over DivX 5.0.

  91. * Integrated video encoding tools. DivX Pro includes built-in video encoding
  92.   tools that are tightly integrated with the core codec. This include:
  93.   de-interlacing, resizing, cropping, and intelligent inverse telecine and
  94.   deinterlacing mode. This tools normally are included in separate applications
  95.   at additional cost.

  97. * Pre-processing. DivX Pro includes patent-pending noise reduction
  98.   pre-processing algorithms that can dramatically improve the compression
  99.   performance on video sources that normally contain a lot of noise such as
  100.   older movies.

  102. * Psychovisual modeling. DivX Pro includes psychovisual modeling, an advanced
  103.   technique that takes into account knowledge about how the Human Visual System
  104.   (HVS) works to compress moving video images into much smaller sizes without a
  105.   loss of video quality.

  107. * Bi-directional encoding (B-frames). Full support for bi-directional encoding
  108.   (B-frames).
  109.  
  110. * Global motion compensation. Global motion compensation provides special
  111.   encoding tools to deal with common panning and zooming sequences within video
  112.   sources.

  114. * Quarter pel. DivX Pro includes the capability to analyze block movements
  115.   from frame to frame to the quarter pel level.
  116.  
  117. * Data partitioning. DivX Pro includes support for data partitioning, where
  118.   the software organizes the video data differently in the video stream, making
  119.   the video stream more resilient to transmission errors when it is broadcast
  120.   over lossy networks.

  122. * Advanced support for existing encoding applications. All the advanced new
  123.   features of DivX Pro are designed to work immediately with existing video
  124.   encoding applications and require no application updates in order to work.

  127. Known Issues
  128. ------------

  130. * Psychovisual modeling may cause artifacting in some content.  This 
  131.   issue will be addressed in the next release.

  133. * Protecting logs not functional.  Be sure to rename your two pass logs 
  134.   to prevent them from being overwritten if you would like to reuse 
  135.   them.  
  136.  
  137. * Resizing may cause errors.
  138.  
  139. * Save setting to a file is not functional.  Settings can be saved for 
  140.   future reuse only locally to the registry.  If you would like 
  141.   to share these settings easily, just use your "command line" string.
